< OWNERSHIP & CONTINUITY / STUDIO NOTE />
HANDOVER IS
PART OF THE
PRODUCT.
Delivering useful software includes the ability to operate it.
Plan for the day after launch
Launch is a milestone, but the system’s working life continues. Someone will need to operate it, answer questions, review changes and make decisions. The handover should prepare that team for what comes next.
Make the system understandable
Documentation should explain the important workflows, responsibilities and technical boundaries. It should help the receiving team find what they need. A large collection of files is not the same as useful knowledge.
Connect ownership with capability
Ownership has practical meaning when the team understands the delivered system and has the agreed access and knowledge to operate it. Define those expectations early, then return to them throughout the project.
Transfer knowledge through the work
A final presentation can be useful, but it should not carry the entire handover. Review decisions and working software with the team as the project develops. Context builds over time, and the final transition becomes easier when the team has stayed close to the process.
Agree what comes next
Document the released scope, the important operational notes and the next priorities. A useful handover makes the next conversation clearer. It gives the organisation a stronger starting point for operating and evolving the system.
